知床とは？
オホーツク海と太平洋に突き出た知床半島は、断崖絶壁の海岸線に囲まれ、中央には羅白岳、硫黄山などの知床山地がある。日本最北東端の知床岬を含む、半島先端部一帯が知床国立公園に指定され、自然のままの姿を多く残す日本最後の秘境で世界遺産に指定されている。
知床とは、アイヌ語で岬を意味する「シレトク」だが、「シレカンライ」（地の果て）とも呼ばれていた。
